  • Scales smooth.
  • Light or dark brown
  • Snout Tapered
  • Young with white head markings and bright white bands
  • Belly white or yellowish-white
  • Diurnal. Found in rodent burrows, rock piles, and heavy brush.
  • Young eat insects and frogs; adults eat field and metad rats that are killed by constriction or applying body pressure.
  • If threatened or captured, may flatten forebody to display a narrow “hood” – causing some to mistake it for a Cobra.
